Emotional Fitness:
The goal of emotional fitness is to feel content and happy with life and be able to handle the challenges that life brings.
The notion of “Emotional Fitness” generates the idea of emotional hardiness or resilience and flexibility. That is, when we are emotionally fit and healthy we are not stuck in rigid, inflexible ways of thinking or habitual behaviors.
When we enjoy emotional health we are able to deal effectively with our thoughts and emotions and take control of the only real thing we can control – our actions and behavior. We understand that it is our choice to take effective action and to make our lives the way we want them to be. Among other things, we are able to identify our values and live our lives according to them.
It is important to note that when we are emotionally fit we are not immune to life’s difficulties or traumas such as family and relationship problems, serious health problems, or workplace and financial stressors but we are better able to "bounce back" from these experiences and focus on taking effective action.
We are not talking about a trait we either have or do not have, emotional fitness involves behaviors, thoughts, and actions that can be learned and developed in all of us.
